Musings, observations and opinion on food from a Southern Tasmanian perspective
that is great news!
That is indeed fantastic Steve! I am SO relieved, especially following an extremely interesting conversation I had last weekend with some small local landowners who grow their animals holistically, and send them to be slaughtered at Cradoc, following very specific questioning of the current owners as to the circumstances of the animals treatment after they arrived at the abbatoir. The smallholders were getting quite desperate about what to do if the Cradoc operation closed down. I reckon it'll be party time down that way!
Thank you Jenny, Elaine and Steve for getting the message out there. Your community spirit has been rewarded-well done and thanks very much!
The best news- as we were driving into work I saw the Devonport abbatoir truck and I wondered what was happening with Cradoc.
Phew! You can now kill the fattened calf.
Ring the bells!!Let the cattle rejoice...!!
Oh I didn't know! The world seems a little less mad, after all.... nice.
ps I have just bought "Salades" by Damien Pignolet. I am in love and in heaven!
Hi Steve. The new fella at the abattoir is getting people off side very fast. he's raised the prices, has stopped supplying some items that were always available and is apperently insisting that the beasts killed there are butchered by his butchers. It is said he charges more to have an animal killed if you dont get it butchered by him? One person I know is simply refusing to get anything from this abattoir anymore.Whats going on can you shed some light on this issue please?
